Comment by Rob on October 17, 2011 at 12:44pm: Adam, I can't say whether or not the actual subtitles are indexed separately , but it does give the actual video better seo value by making it more clear to the search engines that the actual content of the video matches the title, tags and description. Once they are uploaded to Youtube you can simply add the captioning. I will look into the product mentioned by Mark, that could really save the time it would take to correct the text before uploading.

We do have to edit the videos once they are uploaded to YouTube, but this doesn't seem like that much more work if you are getting the added SEO value.

It is possible to edit the caption prior to uploading to the video. It will take a few tries to get it right and may become a lot easier as you apply it more often. Hope this was helpful.
